Two Detentions in the Aftermath of London Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident caused the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to police.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.

The arrests come after a probe into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, two women had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A toddler aged three was among the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and have since been discharged.

Police detained a 31-year-old man for suspected theft and assault near the scene. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Authorities were alerted at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals hurt by a noxious substance thought to be an irritant spray.

The attack - an event that police said was isolated and not considered an act of terror - resulted in delays to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park briefly.
